Volume 23 of the Journal of short film includes eleven short films on DVD, including Parasol, the short film by Webster Crowell.
A publication of the Ohio State Film studies program, the JSF states “Art and democracy are dependent on a plurality of voices, and we can no longer afford such narrow, commercial influences on culture. Digital technology provides us options, and, starting now, filmmakers have a new venue.”
The compilation is available here: Journal of Short Film
Animated across the surface of innumerable paper parasols, Parasol took over two years to create; it is a love story about bicycles, dancing and speed and toured the world, visiting multiple festivals including Rooftop films, Cinequest and the Bicycle Film festival tour.
Eyeworks Festival, Chicago Nov 5 & 6, 2011
The Eyeworks Festival in Chicago looks so great! Wish I could attend. Here is a great interview with the organizers. I love their description of the work represented at the festival – somewhere between experimental and commercial work. Portland-based animator Lori Damiano is festival guest. Check out the full program, AND animated festival trailer comprised of posters, here.

New iPhone Vimeo App Features Animation by SEAT
Well you’d never guess it. April 1st, 2011 brought an interesting surprise to SEAT members as the Thermals video produced on the wall at Cal Anderson as part 1 of Wallrus ended up as a featured video on the new iPhone Vimeo app screenshots. The play count went through the roof and director Clyde Petersen wondered if it was an April Fools joke from Vimeo. But two weeks later, it’s still there. It’s everywhere. How nice. If you haven’t seen the video yet, check it out now!
☂ Show with Ruthann Friedman songwriter of ‘Windy’ ☂
Ruthann Friedman, has been around since the real 60's & is best known for the hit song Windy (everyone knows it's….). She and Ryan Fuller (Fort King) have a folk alliance in LA, and are up in Seattle paying us a sonic visit for a few days. Ryan's a beautiful singer songwriter who sings about finding arrowheads in the sand amongst other dreamy subjects, and he is composing a live score to Gruber's animated performance piece Both Worlds. Psychic Portraiture is also woven into this magical Monday evening at Rendezvous April 4th, 8pm
